Raxio builds Uganda’s first carrier-neutral data center facility

African company- Raxio has announced the introduction of the first advanced tier III carrier-neutral data center at its facility in Kampala Industrial and Business Park, Uganda. With this move, the company aims at supporting industries that are witnessing high complex IT and regulatory challenges by offering them a secure colocation space of nearly 400 racks ready to supplement crucial IT infrastructure in a 24/7 environment.

The new data center is based on the ‘metro edge’ data center model, offering an exchange of data in units that are situated close to the urban centers.

It is worth noting that Raxio Uganda provides a wide range of seamless data connectivity owing to a variety of local and international fiber carriers that are connected at the data center. These comprise of Africell Uganda Limited, Bandwidth and Cloud Services Group, National Information Technology Authority-Uganda, Uganda Telecom Limited, SEACOM, Roke Telkom, Airtel Uganda, Csquared, MTN Uganda, and Liquid Telecom.

Additionally, Raxio hosts the Uganda Internet eXchange Point that allows the networks to directly interconnect and exchanges data traffic at a common point in-country, making internet cost-effective, faster, and reliable.

Reportedly, Raxio’s center in Uganda deploys highly advanced technologies that meet the requirement of customers and simultaneously minimizes the impact on the environment. Moreover, the choices of equipment in the company were developed and adapted to the local climatic condition to constantly reduce carbon emission levels.

The new data center in Uganda is also established to support the priorities of the Ministry of ICT, Uganda which focuses on broadening the ICT infrastructure to cover the entire nation along with ensuring digital inclusion. Moreover, job creation and information security will be provided by Raxio.

According to Robert Mullins, CEO, Raxio Group, the company is seeking to establish 12 carrier-neutral units across Africa in the next three years. Raxio aims at offering suitable technological infrastructure which will help businesses to transform and offer economic growth, and digital transformation across Africa.
