French President- Mr. Emmanuel Macron has pledged to double the total number of coronavirus vaccine doses to 120 million which France plans to donate to poor nations.
Commenting during the Global Citizen fundraising concert in Paris, President Macron said that the state of vaccination is far behind in most continents because of Europe, collectively.
He highlighted that merely 3% of Africa’s population has received the COVID-19 vaccine jabs, and assured that their country will help UNICEF and healthcare systems to accelerate the distribution of vaccines in many underdeveloped regions.
With an aim to help the projects designed to reboot economies of African nations, Mr. Macron added that France will redirect nearly 20% of the special funding it received from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Finally, President Macron also committed that France will spend USD 386 million to promote education in France.
Along similar lines, the U.S. announced that it will be doubling its coronavirus vaccine doses, totaling its contribution to 1.1 billion. The European Union on the other hand has promised to distribute nearly 500 million vaccine shots.
While in a video message broadcast to the United Nations, Xi Jinping- the President of China guaranteed nearly two billion doses of coronavirus jabs by the end of 2021.
The efforts follow after Mr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Head of the World Health Organization expressed the injustice of massive imbalance in the distribution of COVID-19 vaccines in developed and poor nations.
It is worth mentioning that, African authorities have requested for an opportunity to buy COVID-19 vaccine doses for their citizens during a meeting of the African Union.
As per Agence France-Presse (AFP) tally extracted from official sources, nearly 53 African nations with a total population of over 1.3 billion people have received a total of 10 vaccine jabs for every 100 people.
