Botswana has declared to offer additional vaccine jabs to its population in order to minimize the hospitalization and fatalities due to COVID-19.
To curb the snowballing COVID-19 cases and boost the immunity of the people, Botswana’s Ministry of Health and Wellness has recently announced provision of five different COVID-19 vaccine booster shots.
As per the statement by Botswana’s Ministry of Health and Wellness, people who have received their first jabs at least two months prior or within six months of their original dose naturally qualify for booster vaccine shots of Moderna, Pfizer, Sinovac, AstraZeneca or COVISHIELD, Johnson & Johnson.
Reportedly, the news of the provision of additional vaccine shots of the 5 coronavirus vaccines has come after the approval by the medicinal supervisor of South African country’s, Botswana Medicines Regulatory Authority, BoMRA.
Shirley Mukamambo, Public Relations Official, Ministry of Health and Wellness in Botswana stated that it is vital for everyone to get a booster jab of the same vaccine a person got vaccinated with initially.
Shirley mentioned that the additional jabs are necessary to enhance immunity of an individual and to avoid severe symptoms and risk of hospitalization and deaths, if in case one gets infected with COVID-19 or some other variant.
According to Botswana’s Ministry of Health and Wellness, the country has witnessed 237,678 confirmed coronavirus cases with a death count of 2514 people.
Makumambo added that almost 1.03 million people of Botswana have been completely vaccinated, in the drive against COVID-19.
As per credible sources, Botswana has reportedly detected 19 cases of the new COVID-19 variant carried by four foreign nationals traveling on diplomatic mission.
It has been speculated that almost all the cases in Botswana of the highly infectious Omicron have come from abroad.
